Every journey is filmed from the first day to the last without scripts or staged scenes. Most expeditions are completed overland, often using Asmatullah's own vehicle, allowing each series to capture the reality of life on the road and the people encountered along the way.

Who Is Behind Kohistani.com?
My name is Asmatullah Kohistani, and I am the founder, filmmaker, photographer and storyteller behind Kohistani.com.
Everything you see here, from planning expeditions and filming to editing, writing and publishing, is created by me. What began as a passion for documenting my own travels has grown into a documentary travel platform followed by viewers from around the world.
My Story
I was born in Afghanistan, but my journey began with leaving home.
When war reached our lives, my family and I moved to Pakistan, where we spent nine years. Later, we returned to Afghanistan, and after another seven years, I began a new chapter in Sweden, where I have lived since 2012.
Growing up between countries taught me something early: every place has a story, and every person carries a journey. Moving not because you wanted to travel, but because life pushed you across borders gave me a different way of seeing the world. I learned to listen, observe, and appreciate the stories that often remain untold.
That curiosity eventually led me to the road, and to the camera.
Over the years, I have travelled across Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and South Asia, documenting the places, people and moments I encounter along the way. From long overland expeditions through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey and many other countries, to unexpected conversations with strangers in remote villages and roadside tea houses, the greatest discoveries have often been the human ones.
Rather than simply showcasing beautiful destinations, I create documentary films that focus on real people and genuine experiences. I want to show the kindness of strangers, the resilience of communities, the diversity of cultures and the everyday moments that remind us how much we have in common.
For me, a camera is more than a tool for recording places. It is a way to connect with people. Through storytelling, I hope to build bridges between cultures, challenge misconceptions and preserve stories that deserve to be remembered.
